IMPORT FACILITY FOR FOREIGN COMPANIES

India is now a signatory of ATA Carnet system with most of the countries in the world. The Indian customs therefore will honour ATA CARNET documents issued by other members` countries.

This can cover cargo consignment for exhibitions on temporary import basis, except for all consumable goods meant for distribution or sale, which are not likely to be re-exported. Exhibitors who wish to use the ATA Carnet should contact the International Chamber of Commerce in their respective countries regarding application procedure.

The Carnet has to be in the name of the participating company. If possible, the name of the person carrying the carnet and his passport number should appear on the said document.

Foreign exhibitors wishing to bring goods into India for exhibiting in the exhibition may do so under ATA Carnet without payment of duty. Facility for importing goods into India under ATA Carnet is available to only those foreign companies who have paid the participation fee in foreign currency. The facility is not available to dealers, distributors or agents of foreign companies in India.

As the organiser, we would strongly recommend that the exhibitor should engage the services of the Official Freight Forwarder, who is familiar with the Customs procedure and is also able to handle all your exhibits and consignments from your door step till arrival in any Indian port/airport and delivery till the stand. Same services will be offered for return.

Should you use your own freight forwarder please ensure that your freight forwarder is familiar with the ATA Carnet rules as well as Customs and Octroi Regulations in India and is also in a position to raise the Bank Guarantee, if required.

HAND CARRIED ITEMS ON ATA CARNET

ATA-Carnet could be used for hand carried goods into India. Exhibitor needs to have following documents while they hand carry goods on Carnet into India.

1. Complete set of ATA Carnet documents duly stamped and signed by the local Chamber of Commerce of your country.
2. Copy of the ITPO approval letter.
3. Participation Certificate from the Organiser.

In the case of hand carried goods, the exhibitors themselves or their local distributor will have to complete the formalities with the help of customs officials at the immigration point at Mumbai International Airport.

SHIPMENTS BY COURIER ARE NOT ADVISED AND COULD FACE CARNET DIFFICULTIES.

OCTROI CLEARANCE

Octroi is leviable on all goods entering the city of Mumbai. Organisers will be obtaining permission from Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Palika (Mumbai Municipal Corporation) for bringing in the exhibits/consignments within the boundaries of Mumbai city without payment of octroi. Organisers have appointed Octroi agent to facilitate clearance. The Octroi agent will inform the exhibitor who wishes to avail the exemption about all the formalities that are to be completed in connection with the octroi exemption.
