The Indian infotainment industry is booming, and the latest analysis and projections confirm that the boom is only going to get bigger as corroborated by the FICCI ( The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry ) Report given below.
 
THE ECONOMIC IMPETUS
Over the last decade, India has registered the fastest growth among major democracies and is now the fourth largest economy in terms of "purchasing power parity". The Indian economy continues to perform strongly and one of the key sectors that benefits from this fast economic growth is the E & M industry. When incomes rise, proportionately more resources get spent on leisure and entertainment than on necessities.
 

INDIAN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

The size of the E & M in India is currently estimated at INR 353 billion and is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 19 percent over the next five years.

 

INDIAN TELEVISION BROADCASTING

The television industry is estimated to be INR 148 billion of which the largest chunk continues to be the television distribution segment. The Indian Television industry is projected to grow at annual compounded rate of 24 percent per annum over the next five years to reach the estimated size of INR 427 billion.

 
INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY
 

The Indian film industry stands today at an estimated INR 68 billion. Having grown 20 percent from the previous year the film industry is projected to reach around INR 153 billion by 2010.

 
INDIAN RADIO INDUSTRY
 
The size of the Radio industry is currently estimated at INR 3 billion. This comprises of revenues that are earned by radio stations from advertisements. Of the total ad spend in India, radio is presently estimated to garner a share of about 2 percent. This share will rise substantially over the next five to ten years, keeping in mind the explosive growth in the ad inventory as a result of commencement of operations of atleast 300 stations over the next one to two years. The radio industry is likely to achieve a growth of atleast 32 percent over the next five years.
